I've confirmed West Virginia is hiring Georgia State offensive coordinator Travis Trickett to coach tight ends. SB Nation first reported the hire. Trickett also has held coordinator roles at Florida Atlantic and Samford. He attended West Virginia and began his career there as a student assistant under Rich Rodriguez.

Source: Georgia Southern is hiring Lamar Owens as wide receivers coach. Owens spent the past 11 seasons at Georgia Tech, the last nine as A-backs coach. He also coached special teams with the Yellow Jackets the past three seasons. Owens played quarterback for Paul Johnson at Navy.

There's one final FBS head-coaching change, as Coastal Carolina's Joe Moglia announces he's stepping down and offensive coordinator Jamey Chadwell will take over. Moglia will remain at the school through June 2021 as chairman of athletics and have "executive authority over football," with Chadwell reporting to him. Moglia, 69, had one of the more unique careers as he coached from 1968 to 1980, became a successful business executive and then returned to football in 2009. He went 56-22 at Coastal Carolina. Chadwell coached Coastal Carolina in 2017 when Moglia was out on medical leave.

Sources: Troy expected to hire Kansas OC Lindsey

Chip Lindsey, who joined Kansas as its offensive coordinator last month, is expected to be named head coach at Troy, sources told ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. He replaces Neal Brown, who moved on to West Virginia last week.

ESPN sources: Kansas offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey is expected to be named the next head coach at Troy. Football Scoop first reported the move. Lindsey joined the Kansas staff last month after spending the last two seasons as Auburn's offensive coordinator. He returns to his native Alabama, where he began his career as a longtime high school coach. Troy also considered Tulane offensive coordinator Will Hall, Louisiana-Lafayette defensive coordinator Ron Roberts and Ole Miss linebackers coach Jon Sumrall for the job.

West Virginia is hiring Troy's Neal Brown as its next coach, sources tell ESPN's Mark Schlabach. Yahoo first reported the impending hire. Brown emerged as the leading candidate for WVU even before Dana Holgorsen officially left for Houston, sources said. He spoke to WVU on Thursday. Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell and West Virginia defensive coordinator Tony Gibson also were interviewed for the job. Brown amazingly had been passed over for several Power 5 opportunities, so this is a real steal for WVU late in the cycle.

Interesting rumblings today on Kansas State. I've heard various candidate combinations, all with North Dakota State's Chris Klieman, most with Memphis' Mike Norvell, some with Oregon defensive coordinator Jim Leavitt. Troy's Neal Brown, I'm told, also in consideration. Brown is unique because he followed a veteran coach (Larry Blakeney) and took over a Troy program that had been struggling a bit, like Kansas State is now. He's 30-8 since 2016.

Hearing that Appalachian State not surprisingly wants a coach with direct ties to the school to succeed Scott Satterfield. Georgia Tech defensive coordinator Nate Woody, NC State associate head coach/OL coach Dwayne Ledford and Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Scot Sloan all will be in the mix. Georgia State coach Sean Elliott could be an option, too, as he played and coached at Appalachian State. A 2-10 record this fall doesn't help.

Sources: Texas State is finalizing an agreement with West Virginia offensive coordinator Jake Spavital to make him the next Bobcats' coach. The deal should be completed soon. Spavital, 33, has served as an offensive coordinator at WVU, Cal and Texas A&M. He replaces Everett Withers, fired Nov. 18 after three seasons at Texas State.
