Bill Walsh
San Jose State Athletics
Although Walsh is most famous for creating the West Coast offense and winning three Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers, he got his start at San Jose State. A quarterback at San Mateo Junior College, he became a tight end and defensive end when he transferred to San Jose State. After receiving his degree, he started his coaching career as a graduate assistant for the Spartans while he worked on his master's degree. His thesis? "Defensing the Pro-Set Formation." He also helped the university search for a new coach in 2004. His input led to the hiring of Dick Tomey. -- Ted Miller's Signature Fact
