Like A Cockroach
Nov. 18, 1961: The Longhorns were 8-0 and ranked No. 1. TCU had already lost four games, but had tied Ohio State on the road. In the second quarter at Memorial Stadium in Austin, TCU QB Sonny Gibbs fired a 50-yard touchdown to Buddy Iles on a flea-flicker play. It was the only score of the game, and the 6-0 loss cost Texas a national championship. Texas coach Darrell Royal later compared the Horned Frogs to cockroaches. "It's not so much what they eat and carry off," he said. "It's what they get into and mess up."
