Dec. 8, 2001: One week earlier, playing a game postponed because of the Sept. 11 attacks, Tennessee upset Florida to win the SEC East and climb to No. 2 in the polls. A victory over the Tigers would allow Tennessee to play for its second crystal football in four seasons. The Vols counted those chickens but they never hatched. LSU dominated the game and initiated a change of the SEC guard. Phillip Fulmer coached the Vols for seven more seasons but never took them to such heights again.
