Notre Dame trailed Ohio State, 13-12, with 2:00 to play when Irish star back Andy Pilney injured his knee and had to be carried off the field. In came Bill Shakespeare -- really -- to drive Notre Dame to the Buckeyes' 19. In the waning seconds, Shakespeare took a handoff on a reverse and threw a touchdown pass to Wayne Millner. Historians consider the 18-13 Irish victory the greatest game of its era.
