Kicker Katie Hnida started out at Colorado under coach Rick Neuheisel. When his replacement, Gary Barnett, let Hnida know in stark terms that she was unwanted, Hnida transferred to New Mexico. In the 2002 Las Vegas Bowl, New Mexico coach Rocky Long sent Hnida out to kick the Lobos' first PAT. Yes, UCLA blocked it, and came back to win, 27-13, but college football would never be a single-gender sport again.
