Oregon races past Kansas State in Fiesta Bowl

De'Anthony Thomas returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for the first of his two touchdowns, Marcus Mariota accounted for three scores, and No. 5 Oregon raced past No. 7 Kansas State 35-17 at the Fiesta Bowl on Thursday night.

Research Notes

  • Oregon scored all four of its touchdowns in two minutes 30 seconds or less, including three such touchdowns on offense. Oregon has now scored an FBS-best 23 offensive touchdowns in one minute or less and 55 offensive touchdowns in two minutes, 30 seconds or less.

  • Collin Klein had a season-low seven yards on designed rushes against Oregon and averaged 0.9 yards per carry on those rushes, his fewest in a game this season. He entered the Fiesta Bowl averaging 5.0 yards per carry on designed rushes and it was his second game this season where he did not have a touchdown on a designed rush (Week 1 vs Missouri State).

  • Oregon outscored Kansas State by 10 points in the third quarter to build a 32-10 lead. After holding the ball for 8 minutes, 51 seconds in the first half and averaging 21.2 seconds per play, the Ducks possessed the ball for almost 10 minutes and sped up their pace of play in the third quarter.

  • Kenjon Barner gained 120 of his 143 rushing yards in the second half, including 62 rushing yards before first contact. Oregon's offensive line was more effective opening holes as the game progressed. In the second half, Barner had eight rushes in which he was not contacted until at least five yards past the line of scrimmage after having two such rushes in the first half.

  • Collin Klein was 0-for-6 and threw both of his interceptions on passes 10 yards or longer downfield against Oregon. In Kansas State's two losses this season, Klein completed 23.2 percent of his passes thrown at least 10 yards downfield, compared to over 60 percent on such throws in the Wildcats' 11 wins.
