Arizona's All-Pac-10 tight end Rob Gronkowski won't play against Iowa on Saturday because he's still struggling with a back problem that has sidelined him since the beginning of preseason practices, Wildcats coach Mike Stoops said Wednesday.
Gronkowski, a 6-foot-5, 265-pound junior, saw limited action at practice Monday and Tuesday but did not dress Wednesday and instead worked with the Wildcats' medical staff.
Gronkowski, despite missing the first three games in 2008, caught 47 passes for 672 yards with a team-high 10 touchdowns.
On the plus side for the Wildcats offense, No. 1 receiver Delashaun Dean, who has battled a hamstring injury and suffered a concussion last weekend against Northern Arizona, has been cleared to play. Dean practiced Wednesday.
