Longtime collegiate athletic trainer Dr. Rod Walters, a sports medicine consultant, will conduct the external review into the death of Maryland offensive lineman Jordan McNair, according to a university spokesman. The review will begin by the end of this week. Also, football players have been told that regularly scheduled practices are voluntary until further notice.

NC State football coach Dave Doeren is an honorary race official for Sunday's NASCAR Cup race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Doeren admitted his racing knowledge is quite limited, but he's excited to be taking it all in. He also talked some Wolfpack football, noting that Ryan Finley is returning to the program and "Ryan wants to be the best QB in college football and feels like another year will help him do that. "

Florida and USF have agreed to play a three-game football series beginning in 2022. The Bulls will travel to Gainesville in 2022 and will host the Gators in Tampa for the first time ever on Sept. 9, 2023. The Bulls will return to Gainesville on Sept. 6, 2025. These two have met only one other time, with Florida winning 38-14 in Gainesville in 2010.

The new deal, which will extend Smart through the 2024 season, is pending approval of the executive committee of the UGA Athletic Association on Thursday.
