Stanford RB Christian McCaffrey made the right decision in declaring for the NFL draft. He had nothing left to prove at the college left and will be an interesting player to watch develop in the NFL. "I talked to Coach Shaw about everything. He completely agreed," McCaffrey said in a statement. "Really, it just made sense. The opportunity is right in front of me."

NCAA president Mark Emmert, speaking at Learfield Intercollegiate Athletics Forum in New York, says it's good for the NCAA that the courts are being clearer on defining amateurism. He cites recent ruling by 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals that student-athletes are not employees of their universities.

ESPN 300 cornerback Deommodore Lenoir, the nation's No. 165 overall prospect and former Oregon commitment, will take official visits to North Carolina (Jan. 13) and USC (Jan. 20). Lenoir committed to Oregon in June and decommitted just hours before Oregon fired former head coach Mark Helfrich last week.

WR JuJu Smith-Schuster teased USC fans Sunday with a post on Snapchat that said he was staying in school for one more season, but on Tuesday he told a USC spokesman he was only joking around and had yet to make a decision about his future. A junior, Smith-Schuster is viewed as one of the top draft-eligible receivers and a potential first-round pick.
