I enjoyed and appreciated the conversation with Les Miles over the years. They were memorable and unusual. Just like him.

When you think you'll cruise through Sunday afternoon but then Harvick wins & Kenseth doesn't & Les Miles is fired all in like 15 minutes.

Thoughts from SEC assistant after Les Miles' firing: "It'll be open season with LSU's recruits," the coach said. "Their class was so good. It'll be tough to pry some of their in-state guys away, but this will help others go after their out-of-state guys . This could have just changed Dylan Moses' recruitment big time." Moses, a five-star athlete from Bradenton (Florida) IMG Academy, is originally from Louisiana and is considering LSU, Alabama, Miami, Texas and UCLA.

Les Miles won a lot of football games as LSU's coach and guided the Tigers to the 2007 BCS national championship. But the "Mad Hatter" was also famously stubborn. After surviving an attempted coup by boosters to fire him last season, Miles did very little to change LSU's offense. He kept Cam Cameron, the same offensive coordinator, and started Brandon Harris, the same quarterback. After the Tigers lost twice and looked woefully inept on offense in September, LSU officials finally pulled the plug on Miles on Sunday. Only one month into the 2016 season, the Tigers are now at the front of the line in the race to hire Houston coach Tom Herman.

With former Trojan Ed Orgeron taking over for Les Miles at LSU, wouldn't Miles fit the bill of "big time" coach that @USC has been lacking

Les Miles' firing will put the Tigers' fourth-ranked class in jeopardy during one of the most critical stretches of the recruting calendar. Despite questions about Miles' future after last season, LSU was still able to land 20 commitments in the 2017 class, including 12 players ranked in the ESPN 300 and second-ranked defensive tackle Tyler Shelvin. "Les is LSU," longtime Tiger receiver commit Mannie Netherly of Crosby (Texas) High tweeted after the news broke.

LSU officials fired football coach Les Miles and offensive coordinator Cam Cameron on Sunday, one day after the Tigers fell to 2-2 with an 18-13 loss at Auburn. Miles, 62, had a 114-34 record in 12 seasons and guided the Tigers to the 2007 BCS national championship. LSU assistant Ed Orgeron has been named the Tigers' interim coach.

Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly announced the firing of defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder on Sunday. The Irish have the No. 5 ranked recruiting class in the country, but the six highest ranked prospects in the class are all offensive players. The highest ranked defensive commit, linebacker David Adams, said the coaching change won't impact his status with the Irish. "Not at all," Adams said. "I'm 100 percent to Notre Dame."
