Miami coach Mark Richt told reporters in South Florida why Malik Rosier got the nod as the starting QB over Evan Shirreffs, N'Kosi Perry and Cade Weldon: "He did stand out above the rest. It wasn't an unbelievable amount, but it was apparent that he was having the best camp. Evan did extremely well. I felt like there was enough of a difference to feel comfortable that Malik is the guy. The young guys…they got to know what to do and own it for a while before they can really compete at a high level at that position.”

RB Jeff Carr has left Oklahoma State and will transfer to Division-II Texas A&M-Kingsville, according to the Tulsa World. Carr, who rushed for 85 yards on 12 carries last season, had gotten buried on the depth chart.

Texas landed a commitment from ESPN 300 offensive lineman Rafit Ghirmai on Monday. The commitment gives the Longhorns 15 ESPN 300 commitments, which is the most of any program.

Ohio State named a record nine captains for the 2017 season. Among the list of players is quarterback J.T. Barrett, who is the first three-time captain for the Buckeyes. The group was voted on by their teammates and features five defensive players and four on offense. Paris Campbell, Jalyn Holmes, Sam Hubbard, Tyquan Lewis, Terry McLaurin, Billy Price, Tracy Sprinkle and Chris Worley are the other eight players named as captains.

Georgia has been ranked in the preseason poll each of the last 16 years, last missing in 2001. In 12 of those 16 years, the Bulldogs have been ranked between 8th and 23rd, and in nine of those years, they were ranked between 11th and 19th. Georgia starts the 2017 season at No. 15.
