With RB Christian McCaffrey out, Stanford gets by Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Stanford squeaked past Notre Dame, 17-10, despite the absence of Cardinal running back Christian McCaffrey who had been ruled out for Saturday night's game.

McCaffrey had also missed much of the second half of last weekend's 42-16 loss to Washington State with an undisclosed injury.

The runner-up for the Heisman Trophy last season, McCaffrey is the Cardinal's leader this season in all-purpose yardage. The junior has 520 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the year, along with 18 catches for 154 yards with a receiving TD. McCaffrey also has returned two punts for 16 yards this season to go with 11 kick returns for 251 yards.

McCaffrey is averaging 188.2 all-purpose yards, third in the FBS.

Stanford (4-2) snapped a two-game losing streak.

Notre Dame (2-5) were without right tackle Colin McGovern because of injury after starting all six games this season. Hunter Bivin started in his place.
