FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Arkansas receiver Jonathan Nance says he will redshirt this season and transfer from the program in December.
Nance, a senior who started six games in the 2017 season, made the announcement on Twitter early Monday after playing four games this season. The decision coincides with college football's new rule that allows for football student-athletes to play in four games without spending a redshirt.
Razorbacks coach Chad Morris said Nance, a former junior college transfer who led the team in catches last season, had decided to step back from football at Arkansas and focus on earning his degree, and he wished him well.
Nance thanked Arkansas and his coaches for the opportunity to compete, saying it has been a great ride and that he made lifelong friends.
While Morris did not confirm junior Ty Storey would remain the starter for the remainder of the season, he was very complimentary of the quarterback's performance against Auburn and said he displayed needed grit.
"I think the toughness that Ty portrayed Saturday, and gave the effort that he gave, Ty is our quarterback, yes," Morris said when asked whether Storey solidified his position as the team's starter.
