Jake Bequette (hamstring) to miss game

Arkansas will be without one of its top defensive players Saturday when it faces No. 3 Alabama.

Coach Bobby Petrino announced following practice Thursday that senior defensive end Jake Bequette will miss the game. Bequette injured his hamstring two weeks ago in the New Mexico game and didn't play last week against Troy.

Petrino said he hopes Bequette will be able to return next week against No. 8 Texas A&M.

The 14th-ranked Hogs are deep in their defensive line, but losing Bequette is a blow. Not only has he been one of Arkansas' most productive players, but he's also one of the Hogs' most experienced players and one of their strongest leaders.

Sophomore Chris Smith will replace Bequette in the starting lineup.

The 6-foot-3, 251-pound Smith is one of the Hogs' best-pass rushers. He has 2½ tackles for loss on the season, including a sack last week against Troy. Freshman Trey Flowers, who's from Huntsville, Ala., could also see some action Saturday at end.
