SDSU, BYU in Poinsettia Bowl

San Diego State has accepted a bid to play BYU in the Poinsettia Bowl.

The Poinsettia Bowl will be played Dec. 20 in San Diego's Qualcomm Stadium (ESPN, 8 p.m.)

Last month, BYU (7-5) accepted a bid to the bowl.

The Aztecs (9-3) and Cougars played 13 consecutive seasons from 1998-2010 until BYU left the Mountain West Conference to become an independent.

The Aztecs started this season 2-3 before closing with seven consecutive victories. SDSU tied Fresno State for the Mountain West title with 7-1 league records. Boise State can make it a three-way tie atop the MWC if the Broncos beat Nevada on Saturday.

A big question for the Cougars will be who should start at quarterback.

BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said after Saturday's 50-14 road victory over New Mexico State that Riley Nelson would likely remain his starter. But he wanted time to take in the performance of senior James Lark in his first start.

Lark completed 34 of 50 passes for 384 yards and six touchdowns, with no turnovers.

Nelson was out with a rib injury.
