Navy to charge 3 players in rape case

The U.S. Naval Academy will charge three football players in a sexual assault case, the school said in a statement released to Military.com on Monday.

The Academy has not revealed the players' names, but all three will face an Article 32 hearing, which requires charges to be filed, Cmdr. John Schofield told Military.com.

A female midshipman reported that three football players had "sexual intercourse with her while she was incapacitated" in April 2012 at an off-campus property known as the "football house" in Annapolis, her lawyer said in a statement.

All three players were allowed to play football for Navy in the fall while the investigation proceeded. One of the players, a senior, was prevented from graduating with his class in May.

NCIS initially closed the investigation in November, but it was reopened in January after the female midshipman approached her lawyer.
