Wisconsin defensive end David Gilbert, who retired from the sport in April as a senior because of recurring foot injuries, will continue his career at Miami, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported Friday.
Gilbert, who is from Coral Springs, Fla., will be eligible to play immediately, according to the newspaper.
Gilbert was one of Wisconsin's top pass-rushers last season, leading all Badgers defensive linemen with 42 tackles. He had 9.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, and forced three fumbles, including one in the Big Ten championship game.
Gilbert missed most of the 2011 season because of problems with his right foot and was sitting out spring practice this year as he recovered from surgery to repair ligaments in the same foot.
