GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida quarterback Jeff Driskel returned to practice on Thursday night, just nine days after undergoing an appendectomy.
The 6-foot-4, 237-pound junior missed six practices while recovering from the surgery, which took place last Tuesday at a Gainesville hospital. Redshirt junior Tyler Murphy, who has played in three games but never has thrown a pass in his career, worked with the first team with Driskel out.
Driskel spoke with the media two days after his surgery and also attended meetings and practices while he was recovering. The original timetable was two weeks, but Gators coach Will Muschamp said earlier this week he thought Driskel would return before then.
Driskel threw for 1,646 yards and 12 touchdowns with five interceptions and ran for 413 yards and four touchdowns as a sophomore last season after beating out Jacoby Brissett for the starting job.
