Tom Savage expected back Oct. 12

PITTSBURGH -- Pittsburgh quarterback Tom Savage is recovering from concussion-like symptoms and is expected to play Oct. 12 against Virginia Tech.

Savage left Saturday's 14-3 win over Virginia in the fourth quarter after taking a helmet-to-helmet shot from Cavaliers defensive back Daquan Romero. Wide receiver Tyler Boyd described Savage as "drowsy" on the sideline, and wide receiver Devin Street called Savage "dazed."

Pitt spokesman E.J. Borghetti said Monday that Savage is only dealing with "mild symptoms" and is making progress.

Savage completed 13 of 30 passes for 190 yards and a touchdown with two interceptions against Virginia. He also endured seven sacks.

Pitt (3-1, 2-1 ACC) has won three straight games for the first time since 2010. The Panthers are off this week.
