2016 Schedule
2-2, 6th in ACC - Atlantic

ACC quarterbacks had a monster Saturday. Here's how they stacked up compared to the rest of the country...

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

The ACC ends the day with a perfect 8-0 record in nonconference games, including the most nonconference road wins in any week in league history (five). A top 5 showdown awaits next week between Louisville and Clemson -- yet another huge spotlight ready to shine on the league.

Andrea Adelson ESPN Staff Writer

The last time the ACC posted this many nonconference wins in one weekend was Week 2 in 2014. The best part for the league this time around? Only Boston College won over an FCS team and two victories (Duke over Notre Dame and Wake Forest over Indiana) came against Power 5 teams on the road.

Jared Shanker ESPN Staff Writer

Steve Addazio talked about building momentum, and Boston Collrge looked as if it did that against Wagner. Most importantly, the offense began clicking. The running game was solid against an FCS foe, and Patrick Towles was efficient and hit a long touchdown.

This has to be Boston College's get-right game. The Eagles get a break with FCS Wagner after a three-game start that coach Steve Addazio called a "meat grinder." They were shut out 49-0 last week, so both the offense and defense need to build momentum before a five-game stretch that includes the Atlantic Division's top three teams.

Virginia Tech's Houston Gaines is ejected for a targeting penalty after connecting with a vicious block against Boston College. The Hokies led 49-0 at the time.

Commentators break down Virgina Tech victory 49-7 (2:02)

Matt Fortuna ESPN Staff Writer

This was Virginia Tech's biggest shutout win since a 62-0 win over Florida A&M in 2004, according to ESPN Stats and Info. Additionally, for BC, this is the third time the Eagles have been shut out since the start of last season, which ties them with Hawaii and Kent State for the most during that span.

Matt Fortuna ESPN Staff Writer

BC's defense was supposed to be strong again this season, but it took a beating today in a 49-0 loss in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans tied Bryan Randall's single-game school record with 5 passing TDs, which is made all the more remarkable by the fact that BC allowed just 9 TD throws all of last season, according to ESPN Stats & Info. The Eagles tallied just 124 yards of offense. Fortunately for them, they get Wagner and Buffalo back to back weeks before returning to ACC play. The Hokies will hope to break the ACC's 6-game losing streak to East Carolina.

VT's Ford makes incredible TD catch

Virginia Tech QB Jerod Evans throws a deep pass and finds Isaiah Ford, who leaps over a pair of defenders in the back of the end zone for a highlight reel 30-yard touchdown. The Hokies have a 21-0 lead early in the third quarter.

Anish Shroff ESPN Commentator

Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente joked with us that he would have players carry footballs around campus a la "The Program." Ball security was a huge point of emphasis this week. VT has ZERO first half turnovers after 9 giveaways through the first two games. Jerod Evans 11/15, 142, 3 TD. Bud Foster's defense has put the shackles on BC's offense. The Eagles have run just one play in VT territory. 21-0 VT at halftime.

Matt Fortuna ESPN Staff Writer

It's all Hokies in the first half in Blacksburg, as they enter the break up 21-0 on BC. The offense is clicking, as many expected it could if it cleaned up turnovers. Jerod Evans is 11 of 15 for 142 yards with 3 TD passes, having completed 2+ passes to 4 different players this half. The defense has a pair of takeaways itself, too.
