Maryland QB Hill (ACL) out for season

Maryland freshman QB Kasim Hill is out for the season with an ACL tear. After previously losing Tyrrell Pigrome, the Terrapins have lost their top two QBs this season to ACL tears.

Here's how a former Big Ten assistant assessed 12 of the visiting locker rooms in the league. It's definitely a problem. Illinois = pathetic. Purdue = pathetic. Nebraska = OK. Wisconsin = OK. Iowa = OK. Michigan = below average. Michigan State = pathetic. Minnesota = nice. Maryland = pathetic. Northwestern = pathetic. Penn State = OK. Ohio State = below average.

UCF coach Scott Frost told me during the Knights' two-week break he worried about getting out of rhythm on offense after putting up 61 in the opener against FIU. So far, the Knights have over 300 yards and 21 points through three quarters against Maryland.

Maryland is down to its third-string quarterback as Kasim Hill sustained a right leg injury in the first quarter today against UCF. Hill stayed down after a scramble and didn't put any weight on his leg as he was helped to the sideline. The dynamic freshman replaced Tyrrell Pigrome, who tore his ACL in Maryland's season-opening win at Texas. Max Bortenschlager replaced Hill.

Seth Walder ESPN Analytics

Last week Maryland's offense exceeded expectations in its win over Texas. The unit was led by QB Tyrrell Pigrome, who posted an adjusted QBR of 92.6 in the game, though he suffered a torn ACL in the second half and has been replaced by Kasim Hill as the starter today. But the offense is still clicking. FPI expected Maryland to beat Towson by almost 33 points today, and they are off to a fast start, scoring three touchdowns in the first nine minutes of the contest.
