The Redskins drafted another defensive back coming off an injury. Safety Montae Nicholson had surgery to repair a torn labrum on March 8, but said he would be ready for training camp. The Redskins need him more for depth and special teams this season than anything else. Third round corner Fabian Moreau had surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle.

Redskins safety Montae Nicholson, a fourth-round pick, said, "I'm a physical player. I like to run and hit people. I'm pretty fast. I have range."

John Keim ESPN Staff Writer

The Redskins select safety Montae Nicholson with the 123rd pick, their second choice in the fourth round. Nicholson is a big safety at 6-foot-2, 212 pounds and is best positioned inside the box. The Redskins needed more depth at safety, even with young players such as Su'a Cravens and D.J. Swearinger projected to start.

Malik McDowell said the Seahawks had him in for an official visit during the pre-draft process. He said last season (1.5 sacks) was rough but didn't want to use his ankle injury as an excuse. Asked about concerns with his consistency, McDowell said, "I'm motivated." He estimated that he played about 90 percent of his snaps last year at nose tackle.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

DT Malik McDowell is a good fit for the Seahawks defensive system. Inside pass rush ability with high-level athleticism. More speed on the interior of the defensive line and another pass rusher in nickel situations.

Sheil Kapadia ESPN Writer

With the 35th pick, the Seahawks selected Michigan State defensive tackle Malik McDowell. McDowell (6-foot-6, 295 pounds) is considered a talented prospect, but he battled through an ankle injury last year and had just 1.5 sacks. He has upside, and the Seahawks are counting on their coaching staff to help McDowell reach his potential as an NFL player. As a rookie, he'll have a chance to compete for a starting spot, but Seattle will be counting on McDowell to bring some interior pass-rush in its sub packages.
