Jim Harbaugh told the audience he understands some might wonder why a football coach is here, but that "I am an American first and foremost, and all Americans should care about equal access to justice." He spoke for about five minutes.

Jim Harbaugh has traded his khaki pants today for a dark gray suit, gold tie and purple dress shirt, as he is about to speak in the U.S. Senate on behalf of lower-income families who need legal assistance. A photographer kindly approached him to help him fix the buttons on his suit. "They don't let me go out much," he joked. Harbaugh is taking his role here very seriously -- it's not just a celebrity appearance. He is still, however, a celebrity in this city. Harbaugh came to D.C. with his son yesterday and they went to the Nats game. Jay Harbaugh told me his dad was asked to take about 75 photos in three innings.
