Auburn OC Lashlee leaving SEC for UConn gig

Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee is heading to the AAC, where he will step into the same role at UConn under new head coach Randy Edsall.

Greg Ostendorf ESPN Staff Writer

Rhett Lashlee has been Gus Malzahn's OC all five seasons that Malzahn has been a college coach. But with Lashlee taking the same position at UConn, the marriage is over. "This is a great opportunity for Rhett to implement and run his own offense," Malzahn said. "This is another step towards his goal to become a head coach."

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

With Rhett Lashlee moving to UConn, Auburn could target Arizona State's Chip Lindsey for its offensive coordinator vacancy. Lindsey has extensive ties to the Southeast and had been OC at Southern Miss before moving to Arizona State last year. NC State offensive coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz ahas ties to Gus Malzahn and could be another option for Auburn.

Alabama, Florida State lead Way-Too-Early 2017 Top 25

Alabama loses the bulk of its menacing defense, but there's plenty of talent waiting in the wings. Expect Florida State to return to the ACC summit, but Michigan might slide in the Big Ten.

Watson game winner joins championship moment pantheon (2:39)

Chris Low ESPN Senior Staff Writer

Auburn was the only team to play both Alabama and Clemson this season, and Gus Malzahn likes the Tigers in this game. "Clemson has the best player on the field with Deshaun Watson, and I think changing offensive coordinators the week before the game is going to hurt Alabama. Both teams are great, and this is the best Alabama defense I've seen, but I think Clemson is going to win it."
