Former Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, who was named coach at Florida Atlantic in December, told ESPN he will watch Monday night's title game in Boca Raton.

The Lane Kiffin situation is not the usual path. He is the ninth coordinator in the BCS/CFP era (since 1998) to accept a head coaching position before the title game and is the third who will not handle coordinator duties. The two previous coaches who left before the title game were Mike Stoops in 2003 (left Oklahoma, which lost) and David Cutcliffe in 1998 (left Tennessee, which won).

Alabama announced that Lane Kiffin will not run the offense in the national title game. Sources told ESPN that some Tide staffers "were done with" Kiffin after he was late to meetings last week.

Recruits surveyed at the Under Armour All-America Game were asked what words came to mind when they think of new FAU coach Lane Kiffin. Eleven recruits used the word "smart," while four said "cool" and "good" and three said "great" and "offensive mastermind." However, three also said good luck winning at FAU, and a few others described Kiffin as "bipolar, immature and pompous."
