Kiffin era will begin against Navy
The Lane Kiffin era is a must-see, and his first game as the Florida Atlantic head coach isn't an easy one as they host Navy in Boca Raton, Fla. on Sept. 2. The Midshipmen have won 45 games over the last five years. Countdown to 2017
Former Alabama offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin, who was named coach at Florida Atlantic in December, told ESPN he will watch Monday night's title game in Boca Raton.
Kiffin's back as a head man
Lane Kiffin won't coach in the national title game and will resume duties full-time as the next Florida Atlantic head coach. He's had mixed results in previous tenures.
ESPN Stats and Information
The Lane Kiffin situation is not the usual path. He is the ninth coordinator in the BCS/CFP era (since 1998) to accept a head coaching position before the title game and is the third who will not handle coordinator duties. The two previous coaches who left before the title game were Mike Stoops in 2003 (left Oklahoma, which lost) and David Cutcliffe in 1998 (left Tennessee, which won).
Alabama announced that Lane Kiffin will not run the offense in the national title game. Sources told ESPN that some Tide staffers "were done with" Kiffin after he was late to meetings last week.
Once again Lane Kiffin got left behind by the Alabama team buses, this time Thursday morning after the media day session for the CFP semifinal at the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl.

Recruits surveyed at the Under Armour All-America Game were asked what words came to mind when they think of new FAU coach Lane Kiffin. Eleven recruits used the word "smart," while four said "cool" and "good" and three said "great" and "offensive mastermind." However, three also said good luck winning at FAU, and a few others described Kiffin as "bipolar, immature and pompous."
