Michigan State is hiring Paul Haynes as its secondary coach. Haynes, most recently the Kent State head coach, fills the vacancy left by Harlon Barnett, who departed to become Florida State's defensive coordinator. Haynes had several options after being dismissed at Kent State but joins Mark Dantonio.

I'm told the deal isn't finalized but all signs point toward Syracuse co-offensive coordinator Sean Lewis becoming the next Kent State coach later this week. Football Scoop first reported the move. Lewis has spent the past six seasons with Dino Babers at Syracuse, Bowling Green and Eastern Illinois. Syracuse set more than 40 team records on offense under Lewis.
