Grambling holds on to beat NC Central

Facing third and 12 and needing a touchdown, Malcolm Bell scrambles out and goes deep to Quentin Atkinson for the wild 39-yard touchdown. But on the extra point try, Brandon McLaren's kick is blocked to preserve the win for Grambling State.

Martez Carter's 66-yard TD run felt deflating for a NC Central defense that pitched a shutout in the first half. Just like that Grambling State leads, 7-3.

NC Central's 3-0 halftime lead over Grambling could be bigger if not for a field goal attempt that went wide left and an interception in the red zone. But when you're pitching a shutout against an offense that averages 42.5 points per game, you can't be that upset.

The first quarter of the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl began with an interception by Grambling QB Devante Kincade. So naturally the second quarter offers more of the same as NC Central QB Malcolm Bell turns it over inside the red zone. NC Central holding on to a 3-0 lead thanks to a defense that's getting consistent pressure on Kincade.

Alex Scarborough ESPN Staff Writer

Devante Kincade made a bad decision to begin the Air Force Reserve Celebration Bowl. The Grambling State QB and SWAC Player of the Year took a shot deep, threw into triple-coverage and paid the price with an interception. NC Central will take over with momentum in its favor.
