Nevada is hiring Arizona State wide receivers coach Jay Norvell as its coach, sources tell ESPN. Norvell interviewed earlier Wednesday. FootballScoop.com first reported the hiring. Norvell has been an offensive coordinator at Nebraska, UCLA, Oklahoma and Texas, but this is his first head-coaching job.

Hearing Nevada wants to have its coach in place by next Friday. Two top candidates, according to sources, are Eastern Washington coach Beau Baldwin and Vanderbilt offensive coordinator Andy Ludwig. Others are still in the running.

Eastern Washington coach Beau Baldwin is a candidate for Nevada's coaching vacancy, according to sources. Baldwin is 83-31 at FCS Eastern Washington with a national title in 2010.

Washington State RB coach Jim Mastro, viewed by many as a candidate for the open head coaching job at Nevada, told the Spokesman-Review's Jacob Thorpe he will remain in Pullman. "(I) haven't talked to Nevada, (I'm) not going back to Nevada," he told Thorpe.

Some names Nevada should consider for its coaching job: Washington co-defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake (would be a home run hire, Eastern Washington coach Beau Baldwin, BYU special teams coordinator Ed Lamb, Boise State defensive coordinator Andy Avalos and Air Force offensive coordinator Mike Thiessen.
