Source: TCU adding ex-Cal coach Dykes to staff

A source confirmed to ESPN that TCU is adding former Cal and Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes to its staff. Cal fired Dykes this month after completing his fourth season at the school.

SOURCE: Former Cal coach Sonny Dykes will join the TCU staff. His role is still to be determined. HornedFrogBlitz.com first reported the move. Cal surprisingly fired Dykes last week after four seasons with the Bears. TCU recently lost co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham to Kansas.

California has offered Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox its head-coaching position, sources told ESPN. Wilcox has previously served as an assistant at several Pac-12 schools.

If Cal finalizes this deal with Justin Wilcox, the Bears would move from an exclusively offensive-minded head coach in Sonny Dykes to a former defensive coordinator.

Cal is in final negotiations with Wisconsin defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox to make Wilcox its next coach, sources tell ESPN. Wilcox was a Cal assistant early in his career, and has been defensive coordinator at Boise State, Tennessee, Washington, USC and Wisconsin.

In summary, Cal AD Mike Williams said that on-field and academic performance under Sonny Dykes did not lead to the coach's firing. But Williams did emphasize that Cal wants a "committed" football coach and he did say that Dykes' interview with Baylor was part of the 6-week long evaluation that ended with this morning's termination.

Cal AD Mike Williams confirms that Sonny Dykes was technically fired without cause, but he did acknowledge that Dykes' interview with Baylor played a role. "It's part of the overall evaluation," Williams said. "We want to make sure that we have a coach who wants to be here. We want a football coach who understands that and wants to be part of that."
