Josh Rosen hopes for better luck in 2017

Few things went right for Rosen, or UCLA, last season. If the Bruins QB returns healthy in 2017, he could still become an elite college quarterback and a top NFL prospect. Top returning players: Nos. 26-50 (Insider)

2016 season grades: UCLA

While the defense was a bright spot, overall, UCLA struggled through a disappointing 2016 season -- especially when considering its talent level.

There are less than two weeks until national signing day. A lot can happen between now and then, and commits are looking around. These schools will need to fight to hold onto these recruits.

2017 Football Class Rankings

National signing day is rapidly approaching, and the combination of multiple commitments along with the release of the final ESPN 300 player rankings has spurred changes throughout the class rankings. Ranks 11-20 (Insider)

UCLA is into its finishing kick as signing day approaches. The Bruins have added seven commitments this month including two today, in defensive end Odua Isibor and athlete Morrell Osling. The latter had been a Colorado commit but made the decision to flip to the Bruins just a few days after high school teammate and tight end Moses Robinson-Carr -- a former Oregon commitment -- pledged to UCLA. The Bruins shot 11 spots up the updated class rankings on Wednesday and now have the nation's No. 20 recruiting class.

Replacing the Pac-12 NFL draft early entries

Filling the void left by Christian McCaffrey's departure will fall to Bryce Love at Stanford; he's not the only Pac-12 player with big shoes to fill.

UCLA has fired offensive line coach and ace recruiter Adrian Klemm, who was hit with NCAA sanctions for recruiting violations last September. The Bruins recently hired Jedd Fisch away from Michigan as their new offensive coordinator. Here's coach Jim Mora's statement: "Adrian is a friend, which makes change difficult sometimes," said Mora. "But right now, this is what is in the best interest of the program. I know Adrian will be successful in all his future endeavors. He has played a major role in the lives of the young men he has coached and mentored here in Westwood, many of whom now have careers in the NFL. I want to thank him for that commitment to our student-athletes over the years and his dedication to this program. Most of all, I want to wish him all the best moving forward."

UCLA announces offensive line coach Adrian Klemm has been fired. Klemm, a standout recruiter but also a controversial one, received a two-year show-cause order from the NCAA last September for recruiting violations. He was suspended in the spring of 2015 and for two games in the 2015 season. UCLA's offensive line struggled last fall, allowing 24 sacks. "Adrian is a friend, which makes change difficult sometimes," UCLA coach Jim Mora said in a prepared statement. "But right now, this is what is in the best interest of the program."

UCLA coach Jim Mora announced he has fired offensive line coach Adrian Klemm, caling it "what is in the best interest of the program." Klemm was regarded as a talented recruiter, but was was handed a two-year show-cause order by the NCAA in September after it was determined he violated ethical conduct rules when he paid for two prospects to receive private training. Mora fired offensive coordinator Kennedy Polamalu after the season and hired Jedd Fisch, a former Michigan assistant to replace him.

UCLA and Texas A&M to kick off 2017

Missing college football? The season is seven months away and the opening weekend will be once again filled with intrigue. Texas A&M visits the Rose Bowl and UCLA on Sept. 2 in a return game of this past year's OT thriller at College Station. Countdown to 2017

Sign of the times in recruiting: New UCLA commit Darnay Holmes, an ESPN 300 CB, told me he was a silent commit to USC earlier this week and also silently committed to Ohio State earlier in the recruiting process.

It was a huge day for the Pac-12 on the recruiting trail, as the conference added five prospects during the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. The headliner was No. 12 overall prospect, offensive tackle Foster Sarell, who committed to Stanford. UCLA grabbed a commitment from No. 39 overall prospect, cornerback Darnay Holmes. Safety Bubba Bolden, the nation's No. 139 overall prospect, announced his commitment to USC. Arizona State landed running back Eno Benjamin, the nation's No. 280 prospect, while Oregon State received a commitment from three-star wide receiver Jamire Calvin.

UCLA continues to roll on the recruiting trail of late, as the Bruins added their fourth commitment in two days. All four are on defense, but none are more important than ESPN 300 cornerback Darnay Holmes. The top-ranked cornerback in California was a longtime UCLA lean and despite strong pushes from Nebraska, Ohio State and USC, the Bruins found a way to reel him in. This is the first time USC will not sign the No. 1 California cornerback since the 2012 class. Along with five-star outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips, UCLA now has commitments from two of California's top seven prospects -- a number matched by the 2015 class.

UCLA added two important pieces to its recruiting class on Friday, as defensive tackle Martin Andrus and outside linebacker Rahyme Johnson announced their commitments. Andrus pairs with ESPN 300 prospect Greg Rogers to give UCLA two of the top five defensive tackles in the West region. Johnson, who committed to UCLA previously before opening up his recruitment, joins No. 1 outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips in this class. It has been something of a slow start on the trail for UCLA, though these two important commitments now give the Bruins 11 total verbal pledges.

UCLA LB Mique Juarez will be with the team when it meets for the first time this year next week, coach Jim Mora told the Petros and Money Show (AM 570 - Los Angeles). Juarez arrived at UCLA a highly-ranked player, but dealt with personal issues that kept him away from the team in what would have been his true freshman season last year.

UCLA coach Jim Mora was asked for his thoughts on his name regularly being mentioned for NFL jobs, staying at UCLA and whether that was discussed during the interview process with new offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch. "My sole focus is UCLA and UCLA football. I love it here," Mora said. "I hope I can stay here the rest of my career. I hope I can win enough games to be worthy of staying here the rest of my career. I love it here."
