TCU defense picks off SMU's Hicks

Niko Small intercepts a pass by Ben Hicks to thwart a drive deep in TCU territory. The pick set up the Frogs' third touchdown of the second half for a 33-3 lead late in the fourth quarter.

TCU is taking care of business in the second half at SMU, outscoring the Mustangs 27-0. The Frogs' defense has just been too much for SMU QB Ben Hicks in his second career start and has 10 third-down stops on the night. They face a much harder test next week against Baker Mayfield and a desperate Oklahoma team.

TCU's Hatfield banks in short FG

Brandon Hatfield banks a 25-yard field goal off the right goalpost to give the Horned Frogs a 23-3 lead early in the fourth quarter.

TCU extends lead on Hill's 2nd TD

Kenny Hill tosses his second TD pass of the third quarter, finding Jaelan Austin on a fade route for a 2-yard score and a 20-3 lead over SMU midway through the third quarter.

TCU WR John Diarse joined the program as a grad transfer from LSU this offseason. He made a good career move: Diarse is up to 275 receiving yards this season and is having a huge night against SMU. He's getting the ball a lot more than he did in the run-first LSU offense, whose current wide receivers have combined for just 256 receiving yards after 3 games this season.

TCU strikes on 1st play of second half

Kenny Hill hits John Diarse on a slant that turns into a 75-yard TD 10 seconds into the third quarter for a 13-3 lead.

SMU is giving us a little deja vu tonight. The Mustangs held Baylor to 6 points in the first half two weeks ago. They held TCU to 6 points in the first half tonight. Two strong first-half efforts from Van Malone's defense against two of the Big 12's best offenses.

SMU's Wesley ejected for targeting

SMU's Stephen Wesley is ejected after being called for targeting a defenseless TCU receiver in the end zone after Anthony Rhone's interception.

Rhone picks off TCU's Hill to end drive

SMU's Anthony Rhone intercepts a pass from TCU's Kenny Hill near the goal line. The two teams are locked in a defensive battle at 3-3 in the second quarter.

TCU is really going to miss WR/PR KaVontae Turpin, who's out indefinitely with a knee injury, but Desmon White should be a solid replacement. The 5-foot-7 speedster already has a career-best 31-yard punt return against SMU and will be a factor in the screen game, too.

Ivan Maisel ESPN Senior Writer

Anyone out there think SMU would hold TCU without a first down in the Horned Frogs' first three possessions? The Mustangs are playing aggressively and tackling well. Don't forget: SMU held Baylor to two field goals in the first half before the Bears' talent advantage took its toll in the second. It looks like Chad Morris has SMU going in the right direction.
