Tennessee, former AD reach $2.5M settlement

First-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt has had to get creative on the recruiting trail with so little time to put together this class. One of the Vols' signees Wednesday was safety Trevon Flowers, a former baseball player who had previously signed with Kentucky. Flowers hadn't played football since middle school prior to his senior season at Tucker (Ga.) High School. "I think he will be the steal of this class," Pruitt said.

Florida State started signing day early by flipping Georgia running back Anthony Grant from Tennessee. Grant, a three-star running back, had been committed to Tennessee since June, but recently visited the Noles in January and flipped his commitment on signing day.

New coaches face annual recruiting challenges

The uncertainty that surrounds a coaching change often leads to trouble on the recruiting trail, but a few new coaches have risen to the challenge.

SOURCE: Cincinnati is expected to hire Steve Stripling as defensive line coach. Stripling spent the past five seasons as Tennessee's defensive line coach and assistant head coach. He begins his second stint at Cincinnati, where he coached defensive line from 2010 to 2012. Stripling also has coached defensive linemen at Michigan, Michigan State, Louisville and Indiana, among other stops.

Former Tennessee star running back Montario Hardesty has returned to his alma mater and will serve as an offensive analyst on Jeremy Pruitt's staff. Hardesty was previously on Lane Kiffin's staff at Florida Atlantic. Hardesty rushed for 2,391 yards during his career at Tennessee, including 1,345 yards and 13 touchdowns as a senior in 2009 when Kiffin was the Vols' head coach.
