McShay's Top 32: Allen remains No. 2

Josh Allen can make all of the throws, but his lacking surrounding talent -- especially compared to Sam Darnold -- has hurt him.

Edward Aschoff ESPN Staff Writer

It hasn't been a good start to the season for Wyoming QB Josh Allen. Entering the season as one of the top NFL draft prospects for next spring, Allen has struggled against top competition, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Including the first half tonight against Oregon, Allen has completed 49% (42-86) of his passes to go along with 1 TD and 7 Ints in 3 career games against Power 5 teams.

Undrafted TE Jacob Hollister drew a large media crowd Sunday morning as he was one of the surprise stories in making the team's initial 53-man roster. "It was a whirlwind, just craziness. Really excited. And just really excited to work my butt off for my teammates. It's such a blessing to be part of this organization. So I'm really proud and really happy."

Is Josh Allen worth the hype?

Allen's 4.4 yards per attempt on Saturday were his fewest in any game of his career. It's the second time in as many starts against a Power 5 opponent that Allen, the No. 2 overall prospect on Mel Kiper Jr.'s preseason big board, struggled. He threw just one TD to five picks at Nebraska last season.

Iowa linebacker Josey Jewell said Wyoming and touted QB Josh Allen did less to surprise the Hawkeyes on Saturday than they expected. Allen's hyped status helped to motivate Iowa defenders before the 24-3 victory.

Wyoming QB Josh Allen threw for 174 yards and was intercepted twice in the Cowboys' 24-3 loss to Iowa. It was the second of three scheduled career games for the elite NFL prospect against a Power 5 foe. "There's no excuses," Allen said. "It sucks."
