Texas A&M freshman QB Kellen Mond will start Saturday's game against Louisiana, according to Aggies coach Kevin Sumlin. Jake Hubenak didn't practice on Friday because of a shoulder injury, but will try to go through warm-ups. The Aggies lost QB Nick Starkel to a broken ankle earlier this season.

Sun Belt conference to split into 2 divisions

The new format for the 2018 season was announced Tuesday at the Sun Belt's annual spring meeting and will break up the 10 teams into East and West Divisions.

With their first pick in the sixth round, the Jets selected RB Elijah McGuire of Louisiana-Lafayette. They wanted come out of the draft with another back because depth is an issue beyond Bilal Powell and Matt Forte. He ran for 1,168 yards and seven touchdowns last season. He can catch a little bit and he has return ability. He had a foot injury that bears watching.

McGuire named Offensive MVP of Shrine Game

Louisiana-Lafayette running back Eli McGuire scored the only touchdown of Saturday's East-West Shrine Game in St. Petersburg, Fla. His 18-yard scamper to start the fourth quarter broke a tie and gave the West team a 10-3 victory. Box score
