AAC readjusts slate for 7 teams in Irma's wake

The American Athletic Conference has adjusted the schedule for seven teams in the wake of Hurricane Irma, including rescheduling the USF-UConn game for Nov. 4.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

AAC commissioner Mike Aresco says safety of teams is the top priority and assessing the loss of two league games won't be addressed until next week. The Memphis-UCF and USF-Connecticut games likely won't be rescheduled (no common open dates). The AAC is exploring scenarios for the league race and could have its athletic directors determine the tiebreakers to use.

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

South Florida's game at Connecticut has been cancelled due to the threat of Hurricane Irma. Kickoff time had been moved up 90 minutes to 10:30 a.m. ET to allow South Florida to return to Tampa, but the storm track that has forced evacuations in Tampa area led to the cancellation.

USF-UConn game time moved up 90 minutes

Originally scheduled for noon ET, Saturday's matchup between the No. 21 Bulls and the Huskies will now kick off at 10:30 a.m in anticipation of travel difficulties caused by Hurricane Irma. The change will allow USF more time to return to Tampa, Florida, in hope of arriving before the storm lands.

UCLA and Tennessee start season with unlikely comebacks

When UCLA went down 44-10 to Texas A&M in the third quarter, it had less than a 0.1 percent chance of victory. Thanks to Josh Rosen, the Bruins overcame the second-largest deficit to win a game in FBS history.

Raiders second-rounder Obi Melifonwu said he was not expecting the Raiders to call him since he had only met with them at the combine. "The fact that you guys got Marshawn Lynch," Melifonwu said on a conference call with reporters, "that was the icing on the cake." He said he models his game after that of Kam Chancellor.

Paul Gutierrez ESPN Staff Writer

Here are the Raiders picks so far through the first three rounds of the draft: 1. Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State; 2. Obi Melifonwu, S, Connecticut; 3. Eddie Vanderdoes, DT, UCLA.

Paul Gutierrez ESPN Staff Writer

The Raiders have selected UCLA DT Eddie Vanderdoes with the No. 88 overall pick of the 2017 NFL draft. The 6-foot-3, 305-pounder missed nearly the entire 2015 season with a torn ACL but started 12 games for the Bruins last fall, finishing with 28 stops, 1.5 behind the line of scrimmage.

Paul Gutierrez ESPN Staff Writer

The New York Giants have selected QB Davis Webb. The Raiders are on the clock now for the No. 88 overall selection. They still have needs on the defensive line and at inside linebacker.

Matt Bowen ESPN Staff Writer

Safety Obi Melifonwu has the range and movement skills to play the deep half or drop to the deep middle of the field. He looked smooth at Senior Bowl workouts. Melifonwu is not a true striker on contact, but his size and athletic ability is super rare. 6-foot-4, 224 pounds with 4.40 speed. Lot of upside here with the Raiders draft pick.
