The 10 teams with the easiest 2017 nonconference slates

Once again, Washington will refrain from much heavy lifting in its nonconference schedule. The Huskies headline the teams who are keeping it light out of conference play in 2017.

SOURCE: Indiana is hiring Nick Sheridan as quarterbacks coach, replacing Shawn Watson, who left to become Pitt's offensive coordinator. Sheridan last month joined Central Michigan as running backs coach, but he will instead come to Indiana. Sheridan worked with new Indiana offensive coordinator Mike DeBord last year at Tennessee as a graduate assistant. An official announcement from Indiana is expected soon.

Grading the 2017 Big Ten recruiting classes

Entrance exam: Grading the college football coaching hires

Time -- and wins and losses -- will ultimately tell if the hires during this coaching cycle made the dean's list, but it's not too early to review how the new 21 head coaches are doing so far.

SOURCE: Michigan is hiring Indiana offensive line coach Greg Frey, who held the same post with the Wolverines from 2008 to 2010. Scout.com first reported the move. Frey is expected to share offensive line duties with offensive coordinator Tim Drevno and also coach tight ends. Jay Harbaugh would switch from tight ends to running backs, replacing Tyrone Wheatley.

Source: Western Michigan is hiring former Indiana offensive coordinator Kevin Johns as its offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Johns spent the past six seasons in a coordinator role at Indiana and also worked with the Hoosiers' wide receivers and quarterbacks. FootballScoop.com first reported Johns' hiring at Western Michigan. Really good move for new Broncos coach Tim Lester.

Stats that defined 2016: Indiana Hoosiers

The Hoosiers improved tremendously on defense but turned the ball over too much and didn't capitalize in the red zone nearly often enough this season.

Ohio State-Indiana opener one to watch

Already missing college football? Opening week isn't as great as this past year's slate, but there is plenty of intrigue. Ohio State opens against Indiana in Bloomington on Aug. 31 with former Hoosiers coach Kevin Wilson, fired this season, as the new Buckeyes offensive coordinator. Countdown to 2017
