Source: WR Canteen will transfer to Notre Dame

Wide receiver Freddy Canteen, who announced Jan. 3 he would transfer from Michigan, indicated in a tweet on Saturday that Notre Dame is his next destination.

SOURCE: Former Michigan wide receiver Freddy Canteen is transferring to Notre Dame as a graduate. Canteen, who will have two years of eligibility left, indicated Notre Dame is his next destination in a tweet earlier Saturday. He didn't play for Michigan in 2016 and announced Jan. 3 he would seek a transfer. Canteen caught six passes in two seasons for the Wolverines.


A signing day Texas exodus

"Gone to Texas" was the phrase used during the early 1800s by Americans who left for the then-Mexican territory. But on Wednesday, nine of the Lone Star State's top-10 recruits went in the other direction and signed with out-of-state schools.

Notre Dame finishes No. 16 in class rankings

The Fighting Irish finish with a respectable class, but for the first time in the ESPN 300 era, they did not pick up one of the 41 ESPN 300-rated wide receivers.

Barring a late surprise, Notre Dame's streak of having an ESPN 300 WR commitment is nearing its end at 11 years. Entering this year, Notre Dame received an ESPN 300 WR commitment every year in the ESPN 300 era (since 2006). None of the four remaining ESPN 300 WR is considering the Irish.
