There's no longer any margin for error, Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi feels. At 2-1 in the ACC with a loss to North Carolina, Narduzzi said Thursday's home tilt against Virginia Tech is a must-win game. "I think every ACC game is a must win as we go on," he added. Undefeated Clemson also looms on Pitt's November schedule.

Is there anything James Conner can't do?

Pitt running back James Conner, already an inspiration, shows his teammates he'll do whatever it takes to win, including play some defensive end.

Johnson named midseason All-American

Pitt RB James Conner gets most of the credit, but OG Dorian Johnson has helped open a lot of holes. Johnson has led the Panthers' O-line, which has helped the team average 239.1 rushing yards per game. Midseason All-Americans

Pittsburgh played James Conner and Jordan Whitehead on both offense and defense against Virginia, and Cavaliers coach Bronco Mendenhall said he doesn't see it as a trend but just innovative coaching. Whitehead, a natural safety, is a dynamic rusher, and Conner, an ACC player of the year at running back, is tough to block at defensive end.
