The Mercedes-Benz Superdome is the largest indoor football stadium in the country and Louisiana's most recognizable structure.
Opened in 1975 as the Louisiana Superdome, it is home to the New Orleans Saints and Tulane Green Wave. The Superdome has hosted six Super Bowls and will host Super Bowl XLVII in 2013. The venue also has seen some of the more dramatic NCAA men's basketball championship games, including Michael Jordan and North Carolina defeating Georgetown in 1982 and Keith Smart's baseline jumper to seal Indiana's victory over Syracuse in 1987.
The Superdome became a refuge for thousands during Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 and played host to one of the most historic dates in the city's history on Sept. 25, 2006, when the Saints reopened the dome on "Monday Night Football."
The 2012 BCS National Championship Game will be the second tilt by that title to be played at the Superdome. LSU defeated Ohio State 38-24 in the 2008 BCS National Championship Game.
Since the formation of the Bowl Championship Series in 1998, this will be the fourth time a game staged at the Superdome will determine a national crown. On Jan. 4, 2000, in the Sugar Bowl, top-ranked Florida State earned a 46-29 victory over No. 2 Virginia Tech. And BCS No. 2 LSU defeated BCS No. 1 Oklahoma, 21-14, in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4, 2004, as the Tigers limited the nation's most prolific offense to 154 yards. (Many felt USC, the top-ranked team in the Associated Press poll, deserved a shot to play in the 2004 Sugar Bowl.)
The BCS title game played Jan. 7, 2008, at the Superdome was the first to feature two teams that had won BCS championships. With a 38-24 victory over Ohio State highlighted by four touchdown passes from Matt Flynn, LSU became the first school to win two BCS championships. LSU (12-2) also was the first team since Minnesota in 1960 to be crowned national champion with two losses.
The SEC is 7-0 in national championship games, including two wins apiece by Florida and LSU, and has won the last five titles. The SEC will win a sixth title in a row on Jan. 9, when LSU and Alabama match up in the BCS National Championship Game. (Of course, the undefeated streak will come to an end.) No other conference has a winning record in the national title game.
The Superdome will host the men's Final Four for the fifth time in 2012.
The policy for children's tickets depends on the events, but in general, children under the age of 2 do not need a ticket of their own. Cameras, video recorders, audio recorders, poles, helium balloons, cans, bottles, cooler, laser pointers, fireworks, food, beverages, weapons and pets are not allowed to be brought into the Superdome.

Galloway hopes other 'schools don't fire coaches in season'
Paul Finebaum, Joey Galloway, and David Pollack discuss Les Miles' firing from LSU and think this might open the floodgates for other schools to fire coaches who are underperforming.
Nebraska linebacker Michael Rose-Ivey talks about the threats that have been directed at him and two others who kneeled during the national anthem before the Northwestern game on Saturday. Trevor Matich says people should "listen rather than attack."
