ESPN 25 Power Rankings: Week: 4

After games of Dec. 16

When the top-ranked team in the nation loses -- especially in a nationally televised contest -- it sends reverberations throughout the HS game. Those shockwaves are also being felt in our power rankings. DeSoto's upset of Simeon significantly altered the top 10 with Simeon dropping 10 spots to No. 11, DeSoto vaulting eight places to No. 10 and Montverde Academy ascending to the No. 1 spot.

Montverde's resume includes wins over Dr. Phillips (7-2) and American Heritage (6-2) and the Eagles are one of the favorites at this week's loaded City of Palms Classic. The Eagles have the requisite stars in Kasey Hill (UF) and Dakari Johnson as well as a strong national schedule (Simeon and Findlay Prep) to be in the mix for the mythical national championship at season's end.

Other noteworthy moves include Lone Peak jumping Chester, which is still very early into its schedule, to land at No. 4. Long Beach Poly remains undefeated and gained a slight edge over one-loss Oak Hill Academy. Fort Bend Travis beat Archbishop Mitty on ESPN but fell the next night (the team's second loss), knocking them down to No. 18.

Six ranked teams will descend on Florida for the Palms Classic while several others will compete in various tourneys over the next two weeks, so expect more movement when we return with our rankings on Dec. 31.
