espnW 25 Power Rankings: Week 12


Centennial (Las Vegas) won its third straight Nevada state championship. St. John's College (Washington, D.C.) ended its rival's three-year conference reign. Nearly 2,500 miles separate the two champions. In the espnW 25 Power Rankings for Week 12, the distance between the new No. 1 and the new No. 2 is merely a sliver.

1Centennial (30-2)
Las Vegas, NV

Last Week: 2
With a 97-52 win over Bishop Manogue (Reno), Centennial won its third straight Nevada state title. Junior Justice Ethridge scored 24 points and set a state championship-game record with six 3-pointers. Senior Samantha Thomas, an Arizona signee, added 16 points. After a grueling out-of-state schedule, it was Centennial's 57th straight victory over a Nevada opponent. Centennial's only two losses this season were to Paul VI (66-59) and Clovis West (which Centennial later avenged).
2Saint Johns College (27-2)
Washington, DC

Last Week: 7
Aisha Sheppard, a Virginia Tech signee, was sensational in the rubber match against Paul VI, and St. John's College has an elusive Washington Catholic Athletic Conference crown to prove it. The senior scored 24 points in an emotional 58-52 win. Playing most of the game without senior point guard Niya Beverley, who was hampered by an ankle injury, St. John's College still managed to top Paul VI for the second time in three meetings this season. St. John's only other loss this season was to Clovis West (75-58). Next up is the Washington D.C. city tournament.

3Paul VI (29-2)
Fairfax, VA

Last Week: 1
Mikayla Vaughn, a Notre Dame signee, had 16 points in the WCAC championship game defeat to St. John's College. Paul VI spent the majority of the season in the No. 1 spot. Its only two losses this season were to St. John's College. Next up for Paul VI is the VISAA state tournament.

4Country Day School (29-1)
Miami, FL

Last Week: 3
Miami Country Day won its fourth straight Florida state title, beating Providence (Jacksonville) 81-40 in the title game. Kelsey Marshall, a Miami signee, had 26 points. Channise Lewis, an Illinois signee, had 12 points, 12 assists and nine rebounds. Sophomore Maria Alvarez had 17 points and eight rebounds. Miami Country Day's lone loss was to Clovis West (67-45).
5Clovis West (28-2)
Fresno, CA

Last Week: 5
Megan Anderson, Sarah Bates and Bre'yanna Sanders powered Clovis West past Stockdale in the CIF Central Section quarterfinals. Next up is Central (Fresno) on Tuesday night. Clovis West's only two losses are to Centennial and Archbishop Mitty.

6Grandview (23-1)
Aurora, CO

Last Week: 4
UCLA signee Michaela Onyenwere had 21 points and eight rebounds in Grandview's comfortable win over Dakota Ridge (Littleton) in the second round of the Colorado state tournament. Next up is Arapahoe on Tuesday night in the Sweet 16.

7Duncanville (37-2)
Duncanville, TX

Last Week: 6
Junior Zarielle Green had 55 points in two Duncanville wins to send the Pantherettes back to the UIL semifinals, where Converse Judson awaits on Friday.

8Archbishop Mitty (23-2)
San Jose, CA

Last Week: 8
Sophomore Haley Jones had 21 points and 19 rebounds in a CIF Central Coast Section quarterfinal victory over St. Francis (Mountain View, California). Next up is a semifinal against Valley Christian (San Jose) on Tuesday.

9Riverdale (28-0)
Murfreesboro, TN

Last Week: 9
Anastasia Hayes scored 16 points in Riverdale's comfortable win over Lawrence County in the regional semifinals.

10Hamilton Heights Christian Academy (25-1)
Chattanooga, TN

Last Week: 10
Freshman Treasure Hunt was named offensive MVP, junior Elizabeth Balogun was named defensive MVP and Hamilton Heights cruised to the title at the NACA national championship. Next up is the USA national preps championship in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

11Monacan (27-0)
Richmond, VA

Last Week: 11
UConn signee Megan Walker averaged 25.6 points and Monacan rolled to three wins to claim the regional title. Next up is the state quarterfinals on Thursday.

12Long Beach Polytechnic (24-3)
Long Beach, CA

Last Week: 12
Ayanna Clark, Jasmine Jones and Danae Miller have Long Beach Poly rolling. Next up is the CIF Southern Section championship against Harvard-Westlake on Saturday.

13Rutgers Prep (25-1)
Somerset, NJ

Last Week: 13
Gabi Redden had 16 points and 12 rebounds to lead Rutgers Prep to its 24th straight victory and its third straight Somerset County tournament title. Rutgers Prep continues its bid for a state title Wednesday.

14Mesquite (31-1)
Gilbert, AZ

Last Week: 14
Mesquite won the first state title in program history, topping Sierra Linda (Phoenix) 59-38 in the championship game. Junior Shaylee Gonzales led the way with 21 points and fellow junior Lindsey VanAllen added 20 points. Mesquite featured just one senior on its roster during its dominant run.

15Norcross (27-2)
Norcross, GA

Last Week: 15
Senior Taylor Mason and junior Tehya Lyons powered Norcross into the state quarterfinals against Westlake (Atlanta).

16Timberview (36-2)
Mansfield, TX

Last Week: 16
Chennedy Carter had 38 points in a regional semifinal, and Timberview survived Frisco-Liberty in the regional final to advance to the Alamodome and the state tournament semifinals. Next up is Flour Bluff (Corpus Christi) on Thursday.

17Seton Catholic (29-3)
Chandler, AZ

Last Week: 17
Wow. Seton Catholic avenged a loss to Cactus Shadows (Cave Creek, Arizona) with a 61-27 victory in the state championship game. Junior Sarah Barcello had 20 points and eight rebounds, and Jenn Wirth, a Gonzaga signee, had 19 points and 12 rebounds.

18Central Valley (24-0)
Veradale, WA

Last Week: 18
Lexie Hull had 29 points and 12 rebounds, and undefeated Central Valley won its regional with a 63-49 victory over Sunnyside (Washington). Next up is the state quarterfinals.

19Butler Traditional (30-2)
Louisville, KY

Last Week: 20
Butler cruised to three wins this past week to advance to the regional semifinals against Mercy (Louisville).
20Montini (31-1)
Lombard, IL

Last Week: 21
Kaylee Bambule and Aaliyah Patty scored 12 points apiece, and Montini Catholic survived a double-overtime thriller, 39-35 against Homewood-Flossmoor in the supersectionals. Next up is the state semifinals and undefeated Edwardsville.
21Hopkins (26-0)
Minnetonka, MN

Last Week: 22
Freshman Paige Bueckers propelled Hopkins into the sectional quarterfinals.

22Argyle (35-2)
Argyle, TX

Last Week: 23
A pair of big games from Vivian Gray pushed Argyle into the Alamodome and the UIL state semifinals. Next up is Wharton on Friday.

23Ribault (26-3)
Jacksonville, FL

Last Week: 24
Ribault celebrated its second straight Florida state title with an easy win over Lakewood. Rennia Davis, a Tennessee signee, and Day'Neshia Banks, a Mississippi signee, were overpowering, dominant, magnificent, prolific, you name it.
24Canyon (22-3)
Canyon, TX

Last Week: --
Three-time defending state champion Canyon cruised into the UIL state semifinals. Next up is a Thursday showdown at the Alamodome with Barbers Hill and junior Charli Collier, a UConn commit.

25Edwardsville (31-0)
Edwardsville, IL

A warm welcome to Edwardsville, which knocked out two-time defending champion Benet Academy 59-38 in a supersectional. Makenzie Silvey had a game-high 18 points, and Criste'on Waters had 14 points and 10 rebounds. Next up is a state semifinal showdown with Montini Catholic.
