espnW 25 Power Rankings: Week 14

Back in December, Bishop O'Dowd (Oakland, Calif.), boasting four Division I prospects, was the No. 5 team in the espnW 25 Power Rankings. Windward (Los Angeles, Calif.), trying to adjust to life after the graduation of Big 12 freshman of the year Imani McGee-Stafford, was unranked.

Jump ahead to January, when Windward climbed to the No. 4 spot after a string of impressive victories, including a 58-43 win over Bishop O'Dowd. The Dragons, meanwhile, tumbled and were left unranked.

Flip the page to February, and Windward continued to inch its way to the top and Bishop O'Dowd returned to the rankings.

And that sets the stage for a March showdown.

No. 2 Windward (32-0) and No. 13 Bishop O'Dowd (29-3), which has won 23 straight, will play on Saturday in the first ever California Open Division state championship game.

Windward advanced to the title game on Saturday with an 81-71 win over No. 4 Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.), which had held the top spot for 10 weeks earlier this season. Jordin Canada, the undeclared No. 2 prospect in the 2014 class, led the Wildcats with 17 points and 14 assists, and USC signee Courtney Jaco scored 26 points.

Bishop O'Dowd, meanwhile, beat No. 22 St. Mary's (Stockton, Calif) 58-50 in its regional final. Led by Duke signee Oderah Chidom, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds vs. St. Mary's, and Cal signee Kendall Waters, the Dragons will be looking for revenge.

Elsewhere, three top-10 teams claimed state titles over the weekend, including No. 7 Fairmont (Kettering, Ohio), No. 8 Marion County (Lebanon, Ky.) and No. 9. Incarnate Word (St. Louis, Mo.).
