espnW 25 Power Rankings: Week 5


Four undefeated teams -- No. 2 Neumann-Goretti, No. 7 Bedford North Lawrence, No. 13 Lawrence North and No. 15 Gonzaga Prep -- remain in the espnW 25 Power Rankings for Week 5 after No. 11 Heritage Christian suffered its first loss this past week.

Last-second heroics by Madison Guebert and Valerie Higgins helped keep Eastview and Chaminade Prep on track, and Paul VI and Lawrence North survived upset bids to give the rankings a familiar feel.

Santa Ana, CA

Last Week: 1
The Monarchs are still rolling behind Connecticut recruit Katie Lou Samuelson and Loyola Marymount recruit Andee Velasco, and they posted two more wins this past week. A test arrives on Saturday in the form of Miramonte (Orinda, California) and Sabrina Ionescu, the No. 5 junior in the country.

2Neumann-Goretti (11-0)
Philadelphia, PA

Last Week: 2
Georgia Tech recruit Ciani Cryor surpassed the 1,000-point mark this week, and Neumann-Goretti rolled to three easy wins.

3Blackman (14-2)
Murfreesboro, TN

Last Week: 3
With five players scoring in double figures, Blackman beat crosstown rival Riverdale 56-48 on Friday. Tennessee recruit Jamesha "MeMe" Jackson led the way with 13.

4St. Mary's (12-1)
Stockton, CA

Last Week: 4
Freshman sensation Aquira DeCosta posted a double-double (18 points and 10 rebounds) in a win over Christian Brothers (Sacramento, California). Then Mi'Cole Cayton and Sierra Smith stepped up in a 92-66 win over reigning Division 3 state champion Modesto Christian (Modesto, California).

5Hopkins (12-1)
Minnetonka, MN

Last Week: 5
Undeclared junior point guard Ashley Bates scored 15 points in a win over Edina.

6Eastview (11-1)
Apple Valley, MN

Last Week: 6
Madison Guebert hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds remaining to give Eastview a 46-43 win over Rosemount, which entered the game undefeated. Michigan recruit Sam Trammel has been sitting out while she nurses a knee injury.

7Bedford North Lawrence (16-0)
Bedford, IN

Last Week: 7
Michigan State recruit Jenna Allen had 19 points and 13 rebounds in a 58-41 win over Evansville Central (Evansville, Indiana). Butler recruit Alexa Bailey, who had been out with a hamstring injury, returned in the win.

8Paul VI (14-1)
Fairfax, VA

Last Week: 9
Paul VI survived a scare from Bishop McNamara (Forestville, Maryland) , posting a 53-52 win behind 16 points and seven assists from undeclared junior guard Jasmine Whitney. NC State signee Jonquanae Cole added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the win.

9Country Day School (18-1)
Miami, FL

Last Week: 10
Sophomore sensation Channise Lewis had 28 points, 10 assists and five steals in a win over Fort Myers. Expect Miami Country Day to be tested in a Friday showdown against Dunbar (Fort Myers, Florida.).
10Whitney Young (13-1)
Chicago, IL

Last Week: 11
Kiara Lewis scored 25 points in a 66-57 win over No. 11 Heritage Christian at the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase.

11Heritage Christian (15-1)
Indianapolis, IN

Last Week: 8
Heritage Christian fell from the unbeaten ranks with a 66-57 loss to Chicago power Whitney Young at the Chicagoland Invitational Showcase. The Eagles rebounded to beat William Fremd (Palatine, Illinois). Circle a showdown on Jan. 20 against No. 25 Columbus North.

12Long Beach Polytechnic (11-2)
Long Beach, CA

Last Week: 12
Undeclared junior Eliza Matthews had 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead Long Beach Poly to an 82-58 win over longtime rival Millikan (Long Beach, California).

13Lawrence North (15-0)
Indianapolis, IN

Last Week: 13
Lawrence North survived its showdown against dangerous Pike (Indianapolis) and posted a 48-46 win to remain undefeated.

14Long Island Lutheran (8-2)
Brookville, NY

Last Week: 14
Sacred Heart recruit Erin Storck had a hot hand and scored 15 points in a win over Holy Cross (Kensington, Maryland).

15Gonzaga Prep School (11-0)
Spokane, WA

Last Week: 15
Oregon recruit Otiona Gildon is delivering big numbers and keeping Gonzaga Prep perfect. Gildon had 20 points and nine rebounds in a win over Ferris (Spokane, Washington) and added 23 points against Shadle Park (Spokane).

Charlotte, NC

Last Week: 16
USC recruit Aliyah Mazyck had a double-double (12 points and 10 rebounds) in a win over Independence (Charlotte, North Carolina). A Saturday showdown against No. 24 New Hope Christian Academy is circled on the schedule.

17North Little Rock (13-1)
N Little Rock, AR

Last Week: 18
North Little Rock beat Cabot (Arkansas) 44-40 in its only game since taking home the trophy from the Naples Holiday Shootout in Florida.

18Elizabethtown (16-2)
Elizabethtown, KY

Last Week: 19
Notre Dame recruit Erin Boley had 18 points and 10 rebounds and led five players in double figures in a 71-68 win over Homestead (Fort Wayne, Indiana) in the Indiana-Kentucky Hall of Fame Challenge Cup.
19Potter's House Christian (22-2)
Jacksonville, FL

Last Week: 17
Potter's House fell to Life Center Academy (Burlington, New Jersey) 87-72 at the New Year's Resolutuion Showcase in Paterson, New Jersey.

20St. Francis (12-1)
Alpharetta, GA

St. Francis was pushed by Southwest Atlanta Christian but posted a 51-42 victory.

21Cypress Woods (19-1)
Cypress, TX

Last Week: 21
Texas' top team, led by Oklahoma recruit Nancy Mulkey, rolled up two more wins this past week.

Undeclared junior Valerie Higgins hit a last-second shot to complete a late Chaminade Prep rally in a 59-57 win over Sierra Canyon. Higgins finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds.

Rutgers recruit Victoria Harris and undeclared junior Raven Johnson led Parkview to wins over Georgia opponents Archer, Dacula and Shiloh.

The action picks up for New Hope Christian, with four games in the next week, including a showdown against No. 16 Myers Park.
