espnW 25 Power Rankings: Week 6


Strange, but after a week of marquee matchups all over the map, not much changed in the espnW 25 Power Rankings for Week 6.

In a clash of top-10 teams, No. 1 Incarnate Word Academy proved up to the challenge from No. 9 Regis Jesuit and posted a 68-50 win.

No. 5 Blackman, meanwhile, survived a thriller against Tennessee's long-time top team, No. 18 Riverdale.

And in Indiana, No. 10 Lawrence North won a showdown against Bedford North Lawrence, but fell to a different rival the very next day.

It's all in a week's work for the No. 1 team: A 68-50 win over No. 9 Regis Jesuit (Colo.), a 60-33 win over Illinois powerhouse Marian Catholic, a winning streak extended to 45 games and junior Napheesa Collier becoming the school's all-time leading scorer with 1,549 points and counting.

Duncanville crushed Texas opponents Mansfield 87-28 and DeSoto 88-38 to extend its winning streak to 92. In case you're wondering, the longest winning streak in girls' basketball is 218 games, set by Baskin (La.) from 1947-53.

Mater Dei beat Santa Margarita (Calif) 92-30. Super sophomore Leaonna Odom scored 18 points in her debut for the Monarchs.

Long Beach Poly is rolling right along, beating California teams Millikan and Jordan by a combined score of 165-42.

Murfreesboro, TN

With a balanced attack, Blackman racked up a huge 47-46 win over No. 18 Riverdale (Tenn.). The win brought an end to Riverdale's five-year winning streak against district opponents.

6New Hope Christian Academy (19-0)
Thomasville, NC

Last Week: 6
New Hope Christian Academy rolled by Heathwood Hall, which was playing without No. 1. prospect A'ja Wilson, 97-25.

7Homewood-Flossmoor (10-2)
Flossmoor, IL

Last Week: 9
Homewood-Flossmoor posted easy wins over Illinois teams Joliet West and Joliet Central. Next up: Coach Tony Smith visits his former team, Bolingbrook, on Tuesday night.

8Saint Mary's College (11-2)
Berkeley, CA

An action-packed, five-game week for St. Mary's concludes with a showdown against previously ranked Etiwanda (Calif.).

It was a rollercoaster week for Lawrence North. After beating No. 13 Bedford North Lawrence 59-49, Lawrence North fell to city rival Pike 53-50 the following day.

Myers Park gets some time off after beating Independence and Porter Ridge. Davidson signee Saadia Timpton was honored for breaking the 1,000-point mark.

Clemson signee Shelbie Davenport and Tennessee signee Alexa Middleton continue to produce for Riverdale, which fell to No. 5 Blackman (Tenn.) 47-46 on Friday.

The Dolphins were tripped up by River Forest (Ill.) Trinity (14-2) in a 56-52 loss. Sophomore guard Annie McKenna scored a season-high 21 points and DePaul-bound Lauren Prochaska scored 18 points for Trinity.
