The final act of the 2013-14 season played out in New York at the Dick's Sporting Goods National High School Tournament, and the results opened the door for a new team to makes its way into the final espnW 25 Power Rankings.
Chania Ray, a Florida State signee, led Riverdale Baptist to a 60-35 win over Fremont (Utah) in the final. Fremont beat Miami (Fla.) 44-33 in one semifinal and Riverdale Baptist edged Edgewater (Fla.) 59-58 in the other.
Miami's loss allowed La Vega (Texas) to take over the No. 25 spot. Led by Calveion Landrum, La Vega won the Texas 3A title on March 1 to cap an undefeated season.
While there was movement at the bottom of the rankings, there was no budging Blackman from the top. The Lady Blaze suffered a single loss, to No. 2 Incarnate Word, and later avenged it. Led by sophomores Crystal Dangerfield and Jazz Bond and juniors MeMe Jackson and Alex Johnson, Blackman could stay put for a while.
