Bloxum's blast puts K-State in front

May, 30, 2009
HOUSTON -- Justin Bloxum's two-out homer in the top of the eighth inning Saturday has boosted Kansas State to a 4-3 lead over Rice.

Bloxum jumped on a hanging curve ball and blasted it deep over the left-field wall to break the tie. It was Bloxum's third homer of the NCAA tournament so far.

The Wildcats need six outs and have All-American pitcher A.J. Morris on the mound. After a shaky start, Morris has gotten better as the game has gone on.

Does he have enough left after 97 pitches, including 60 strikes, in the first seven innings to nail down the victory?

Here's an interesting stat on Morris' night so far: He has walked one batter and struck out none. His previous low for the season was two K's, and he twice reached double-digit totals.
