Gamecocks hold edge over Tigers, 2-1

June, 26, 2010

OMAHA, Neb. -- Christian Walker left some ducks on the pond in the first inning. But he made up for it in the fourth for South Carolina.

The first three Gamecocks batters singled in the bottom of the first against Clemson. Walker then grounded into a double play, scoring a run but effectively killing the rally.

But Walker led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to give South Carolina a 2-1 lead over its rival, with a spot against UCLA in the championship series on the line. Clemson's lone run came on an RBI groundout by Jeff Schaus.

Both pitchers -- Clemson's Casey Harman and South Carolina's Sam Dyson -- have been pretty sharp here in the early going. The Tigers, who only scored one run in Friday night's loss, need to get something going offensively.
