UNLV has named Virginia Tech deputy athletic director Desiree Reed-Francois its next athletic director, the school announced Monday..
Reed-Francois replaces Tina Kunzer-Murphy, who is set to join the UNLV Foundation when her contract expires June 30. A formal news conference to announce the hire is expected Tuesday.
"There's a great sense of enthusiasm and momentum in the community and at UNLV, and I'm honored to join this university and work with our coaches, staff, and student-athletes to build on the solid foundation in place," said Reed-Francois. "College athletics have the unique ability to educate, unite, and inspire. Together, we will do all of that at UNLV and build a championship culture that leads academically and athletically."
Reed-Francois has spent the last three years with the Hokies, and most recently oversaw the football program and day-to-day operations of ticketing services, marketing and promotions, HokieVision, strategic communications, graphic design/publications, corporate development and IMG.
She does have extensive ties to the West Coast. Reed-Francois is from California, rowed at UCLA and began her sports administration career with jobs at California, San Jose State, Santa Clara, Fresno State and the University of San Francisco.
