Thad Matta's decorated decade-plus run as head coach of the Ohio State University men's basketball team came to an abrupt end last month, closing the curtain on one of the most successful eras in the program's rich history.
Friday night, a slew of former players gathered to throw a big party in the revered coach's honor, a group that included Buckeye greats such as Greg Oden, Evan Turner and Mike Conley:
Ohio State quickly became a national power under Matta's watch, from 2004-17, appearing in nine NCAA tournaments over a run of 10 years -- including a national title game appearance in 2007 and another Final Four in 2012. Matta produced nearly a dozen NBA draft picks during his tenure, including Oden, Conley and Daequan Cook, from Matta's celebrated "Thad Four" recruiting class of 2006.
